Since the course is conducted entirely as a practical field exercise, no specific textbooks are required. However, students are encouraged to consult the sedimentology and sedimentary geology texts used in the Comparative Sedimentologycourse. In particular, Facies Models is recommended and is available on the eLearning page or directly from the instructor of the Planetary Analogues Field Mapping course.

Obiettivi formativi:
The course aims to equip students with the skills necessary to conduct fieldwork, including the description of rocks and their mapping using electronic systems through the integration of field observations and remotely sensed data. Its objective is to make students aware of the different mapping skills required to produce consistent spatial geological datasets, and to enable them to investigate large areas by effectively organizing and integrating data acquired from both fieldwork and satellite observations. -
Sostenibilità:
The course is conducted entirely in the field, within an environment analogous to Martian settings. The first part focuses on the description, analysis, and interpretation of geological outcrops. Students will then digitally map the geology of the investigated areas using tablets, providing descriptions and interpretations of the depositional environments and sedimentary units present in the study area.
In the 2025/2026 academic year, the fieldwork will take place in the Ebro Basin, Spain, between Alcañiz and Caspe. The fluvial deposits of the southwestern margin of the basin will be investigated, which are predominantly exposed as exhumed channels. The fieldwork will last six days.
