Admission Requirements

Eligible Degrees (Italian Qualifications) Applicants holding an Italian Laurea (Bachelor’s Degree equivalent) in: Geological Sciences (L-34), or Sciences and Technologies for the Environment and Nature (L-32) Applicants with Other Technical-Scientific Degrees (Italian Qualifications) Applicants holding a degree in other technical-scientific classes must meet the following curricular requirements: At least 6 ECTS in mathematical and computer science disciplines (SSD MAT/xx, without constraints on individual SSDs, and/or INF/01) At least 6 ECTS in chemical disciplines (SSD CHIM/xx, without constraints on individual SSDs) At least 12 ECTS in geological disciplines (SSD GEO/xx) At least 50 ECTS in one or more of the following SSDs: GEO/xx and/or ICAR/xx and/or ING/xx and/or FIS/xx and/or BIO/xx and/or AGR/xx and/or ING-IND/xx Foreign Qualifications Foreign applicants and Italian citizens holding a foreign degree must possess qualifications equivalent to an Italian degree in Earth Sciences. Applicants holding a degree in other scientific or technological fields must have completed: At least 60 hours in mathematics and computer science At least 60 hours in chemistry At least 500 hours in geological, engineering, physical, biological, and agronomic disciplines An interview, which may also be conducted online, may be required if further clarification of academic qualifications is necessary. Additional Provisions Applicants who do not fully meet the required number of ECTS in geological disciplines (SSD GEO/xx) may be offered the opportunity to fulfil the missing requirements by: Attending a preparatory course prior to enrolment, or Completing alternative educational activities, as defined by the Academic Board In such cases, applicants are encouraged to contact the programme to discuss and agree on the most suitable solution on a case-by-case basis. Language Requirements A good knowledge of the English language is required. This may be demonstrated by: A B2-level English certification (for non-native English speakers), or An interview, which may also be conducted online Knowledge of the Italian language is not required, as the programme is entirely taught in English. Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree Starting from the academic year 2023/2024, the Master’s Degree in Planetary Sciences has included the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree. The joint degree is awarded by: Università “G. d’Annunzio” of Chieti-Pescara (Italy) University of Nantes (France) University of Coimbra (Portugal) For Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree applicants only: Admission is limited to the number of scholarships available under the Erasmus Mundus scheme. Selection is based on academic qualifications and an interview conducted by a joint commission of the three partner universities.

Certification of Official Documents

Official documents required for enrolment must be duly certified in order to be considered valid.

Certification of Qualifications Issued by EU Institutions

Qualifications issued by universities within the European Union must be certified in order to finalise enrolment.
Applicants are required to contact the awarding university or consult its official website to request certified copies of the relevant documents, either for in-person collection or in electronic format. Depending on the regulations of the awarding institution, the certification process may require the purchase of one or two revenue stamps, the cost of which varies according to the university.

Certification of Qualifications Issued by non-EU Institutions

Qualifications issued by universities outside the European Union must be certified both for the purpose of applying for a student visa and for the completion of the enrolment procedure.
Two methods for certifying non-EU qualifications are outlined below:

1. DECLARATION OF VALUE (Dichiarazione di Valore)

The Declaration of Value (DV) is an official document issued by the Italian diplomatic authorities that certifies the authenticity of academic qualifications obtained in countries outside the European Union for the purpose of recognition by Italian institutions.
Procedure
Applicants must contact the Italian Embassy or Consulate responsible for the area in which the academic qualification was awarded. The Embassy or Consulate will provide detailed instructions regarding the procedure to be followed and the documentation required in order to obtain the Dichiarazione di Valore in loco.
If the country in which the academic qualification was obtained is a signatory to the Hague Convention of 1961, an apostille stamp is required. An apostille certifies the authenticity of public documents for use in foreign countries and is usually issued by a competent governmental authority or a notary body in the country of origin. 2. Centre on Academic Mobility and Equivalence (CIMEA)

CIMEA provides online services for the certification and comparability assessment of foreign academic qualifications with the Italian higher education system. Applicants may register on the CIMEA DiploMe platform to upload their foreign academic qualifications digitally and request their evaluation and/or verification.

The cost of CIMEA services ranges from €150 to €300, depending on the country in which the academic qualification was obtained. Applicants are advised to consult the Service Finder on the CIMEA website for detailed and up-to-date information.

Application Process

Admission Steps for EU Nationals

1. University Registration
   • Go to Unich.it → MyPage → Studenti → Ud’A Online
   • Select Menu (top right) → choose your language → Registration → Web Registration
   • A personal Italian ID number will be generated automatically if you do not have one.
   • Bank account information can be provided later (only needed for refunds).

2. Pre-Evaluation (Pre-Enrolment)
   • Login to MyPage → Studenti → Ud’A Online → Login
   • Upload your previous degree and documents for evaluation.
   • Results will be available within a few days.
   • Recommendation letters and additional documents can also be uploaded.

3. Final Enrolment (from August 2026)
   • Login to MyPage and follow the online instructions.

The following categories follow EU rules:

• EU citizens (including Norway, Iceland, Lichtenstein, Switzerland, San Marino)
• Non-EU citizens legally residing in Italy
• Students with EU programme scholarships
• Students enrolled in joint international programmes

Admission Steps for Non-EU Nationals

1. Pre-Enrolment (from 02 March 2026)
   • Same registration process as EU nationals (see above).
2. Pre-Evaluation
   • Login to MyPage and upload your documents for validation.
3. Universitaly Registration (from April 2026)
   • Visit Universitaly.it
   • Start VISA procedures (if required)
   • Submit pre-enrolment request for the course
4. Final Enrolment
   • Once your degree is verified, you will follow the same final enrolment steps as EU students.
   • IRSPS/University staff will provide support if needed.

Scholarships and Funding Opportunities

Students admitted to the programme may have access to different scholarship and funding opportunities, depending on the selected study track and individual eligibility. These may include institutional scholarships, Erasmus Mundus funding (for the relevant track), and other national or international funding schemes.

Scholarships are offered by the Ministero degli Affari esteri e del Commercio con l’Estero (MAECI) for study opportunities in Italy for foreign citizens or Italian citizens living abroad: Scholarships/Grants – Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale.

Additional scholarships may also be offered by the Università “G. d’Annunzio” and will be announced on this page and in the News and Events section.
